No one talked about security!

The Overlooked Essential: Why Website Security Should Be Your Top Priority

You invest time, effort, and resources into ensuring your website looks great and functions smoothly. However, amid the excitement of design and functionality, one crucial aspect often gets overlooked: security.

For a business owner, security can be thought of as comprising of two components.

Firstly, protection built into your digital assets, or the ‘security fence’. This involves the implementation and upkeep of malware software, keeping your website itself up to date, along with associated plugins. It also involves having the right set of security tools that keep your ‘fence’ intact.

However, perhaps the most overlooked aspect of security relates to the management of your assets. Login credentials, user access, asset ownership, granting of permissions, etc. Simple protocols can be set up to ensure changes of staff, agencies, IT providers maintain a secure environment.

Business owners often tell me that when they first launched their business website, security wasn’t on the radar. All focus was on aesthetics, functionality, and user experience. The great website “love affair”.

However, it often doesn’t take long for reality to set in, and the honeymoon to finish. One day, discovering that your website had been hacked with customer data compromised, and both financial and reputational damage to deal with.

Website security is not an optional extra; it’s a fundamental aspect of running a successful online business. In the same way you put a lock on your front door and manage who is given the key. By prioritizing security from the start, you protect your business, your customers, and your reputation.
